The Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma has put out a slight risk of severe weather for Southeastern Arizona this afternoon & evening. Conditions look favorable for thunderstorms to produce damaging winds in excess of 60 mph.
While the sight of this would have me jumping out of my seat, I’m a little reserved today. Storms [...]

Lots of sunshine this Sunday afternoon, as captured by the University of Arizona webcam. Rewind 24 hours and you’ll recall this image showed a deck of mid-level overcast, which may have played a role in keeping storms relatively tame Saturday. Will that be the case today?
The overall satellite image shows some clouds are starting to [...]

Fairly active Saturday afternoon & evening, despite the morning cloud cover. The big storms occured over Nogales, causing the Nogales Wash to rise 7 feet in an hour’s time. This is what the Nogales Wash looked like around 4:30 pm Saturday…many thanks again to our News 4 viewers. Storms then lifted northwest into the Tucson metro & [...]

Everytime the set-up for Tucson looks primed for storms, something has to get in the way. Here’s today’s fly in the ointment…a deck of mid-level overcast blanketing the Old Pueblo at 11 am. Will these clouds burn off in time for storm development later today?
Satellite imagery shows this cloud deck beginning to break apart in [...]

The last few mornings have seem rather similar: a touch overcast, very muggy. Satellite shows our mid-level cloud deck starting to break apart over Central & Eastern Pima County, with lots of sunshine in to the northeast and southeast of Tucson. Eventually, I think sunshine will prevail & burn off the remaining clouds over us. [...]

The Monsoon is showing big signs of life this evening. Scattered showers & storms continue to show staying power in Cochise County, with the heaviest storms in Sierra Vista & Douglas. Rainfall up to a half-inch is possible with the strongest storms, as this all moves west at 10 mph. Places in Cochise & Eastern [...]

Our thunder threat continues to be fairly minimal this afternoon, with the only exception being in the Chiricahuas. A decent storm has popped up, potentially dropping some small hail west of Portal. I expect these isolated, mountain-hugging storms to crop up again today in Cochise & Santa Cruz Counties. Perhaps a few will drop into [...]
