Friday, July 30th, 2010

As promised, storms got a late start today and as expected, flooding is becoming a big concern. An Urban & Small Stream Flood Advisory has been issued for Southeast Pima, Northern Santa Cruz & Western Cochise Counties until 8:45 pm.  This includes Green Valley, Sahuarita, Benson, Sonoita, Elgin & Amado.
Radar is picking up heavy rain [...]

Late Day Storms & Last Night’s Rain Totals

Friday, July 30th, 2010

I figured I’d wake up this morning to find lots of leftover clouds from last night’s storms, but that wasn’t the case. Seeing clearing over most of Southeastern Arizona, with cumulus starting to build east of Greenlee County in New Mexico. That’ll be the area to watch today, as storms will fire east of Tucson [...]

Wednesday Weather Updates

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

5:50 PM – Tracking a few lines of mainly garden-variety thunderstorms…one over Central Pima County and another east of Vail, Patagonia & Nogales. Movement is to the west-northwest around 10-15 mph, with at most a half-inch of rain from these storms through 7 pm. As a reminder, a Small Stream Flood Advisory continues for Central [...]

Deja Vu All Over Again Wednesday

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

Hey, haven’t we seen this set-up before? Starting to see some clearing skies across Pima & Santa Cruz Counties. Because of this, I think this will be the favorable area for scattered storms to develop today. Clouds over Cochise County this morning will hinder storm development.
Heavy rainfall will once again be the big threat. The yellow [...]

Slow-Moving Heavy Rainers Today

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

It’s amazing what a little sunshine can do to a soupy atmosphere, as you can see some blooming cumulus on the Catalinas courtesy of the UA Webcam. This sun looks to do wonders for storm development today, as we’ll be much more active than yesterday’s Monsoon dud. Perhaps getting my car washed yesterday was a [...]

An Atmospheric Case Of The Mondays

Monday, July 26th, 2010

Lots of clouds over us this Monday morning/afternoon, as you can see from the U of A webcam. These clouds, along with that dreaded warm layer of air aloft, are going to really limit storm chances this afternoon & evening. Forget that scattered storm chance I had for us this afternoon…storms will be the of isolated “hit-or-miss” [...]

Stormy Work Week For Southern Arizona

Sunday, July 25th, 2010

It’s been a while since I had a chance for scattered storms in the forecast for an entire work week, but that’s what we’re looking at for the next several days. High pressure will reside around the Four Corners this week, a favorable pattern for storm development thanks to easterly winds aloft pumping in moisture. [...]

Small Stream Flood Advisory…Will Tucson Get Rain Today?

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

A Small Stream Flood Advisory has been issued for Northeastern Pima & Southeastern Pinal Counties until 2:15 pm. The storms you see on radar over Mt. Lemmon & Oracle are capable of dropping over an inch of rain in the next few hours, causing washes & creeks to flow. Mt. Lemmon picked up 0.87″ rain [...]
