0 for 8.
As a loyal St. Cloud State hockey fan, that stat has haunted me ever since I stepped foot on campus for my first day of classes freshman year. Trips to college hockey’s big dance came in 1988, 1999-2002 and 2006-2007.
8 games. 8 losses. 8 times thinking about the “what if’s” & “what could’ve been’s”.

Alrighty campers, the official “Beamish Bracket” is ready to go & will likely be destroyed by 13-seeds, mid-majors & Duke. Click on the image to see my picks. Last year, yours truly was able to slay the March Madness prognosticators at KVOA. This year? As we say in the TV biz, “stay tuned”.
Interested to hear who [...]

30 years ago today, a group of college kids playing for Team USA pulled off the biggest upsets in sports history, defeating the Soviet Union 4-3. Since that victory, its been hard to pinpoint a significant US men’s hockey win. That changed last night, as the US beat Canada 5-3. At their own game. On [...]

As you can imagine, the Beamish household yesterday was in full hockey mode with the start of the men’s Olympic hockey tournament. I blew up my Twitter account with random hockey posts all day. Here’s the long version of my thoughts on a very non-competitive day of hockey in Vancouver.
USA: 3 Switzerland: 1
My Twitter prediction on this game was [...]

If you’ve been watching the Winter Olympics over the past few nights like myself, you know how much of a disaster the start of the games has been. A lot of it has to do with the weather, which has been anything but winter-like.

Late this afternoon, a Winter Storm Watch was posted for the majority of Southeastern Arizona above 7,000 feet. This is in effect from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday morning. Snow totals will be in the 8-12″ range for Mt. Lemmon, with slightly more for Mt. Graham & Hannagan Meadow. Meanwhile, valley floors will receive at least [...]

Here’s your updated precip amounts for the Tuesday to Thursday time frame this upcoming work week. It now looks like everyone will see at least a half-inch of rain by Thursday across Southern Arizona as multiple rounds of showers are expected. I’ll also point out the gusty winds this storm system will kick up, making [...]

Yesterday I had the distinct honor playing the Accenture Match Play course at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club Dove Mountain. Unlike last year’s Match Play champion Geoff Ogilvy (pictured above), the course did the dominating during my round. Here’s my thoughts on the course…
Biggest Surprise: My score would suggest everything surprised me, but the greens really [...]

Good Sunday evening everyone…no big changes to the forecast. That rain chance for late Wednesday/early Thursday isn’t looking all that great. Little moisture combined with a quick moving system means the window of opportunity to get any rain is very small. The majority of us will stay dry this week, with highs finally dipping back [...]

Apologies to Faith Hill, but lately I’ve been dreading all day for Sunday night. After Matt Moore (who?) and the Carolina Panthers handed my Vikings another loss on NBC’s Sunday Night Football, I find myself spending Monday’s trying to figure out what’s the deal with Minnesota on Sunday night. (Jerry Seinfeld would be so proud [...]
