Stormy Work Week For Southern Arizona

It’s been a while since I had a chance for scattered storms in the forecast for an entire work week, but that’s what we’re looking at for the next several days. High pressure will reside around the Four Corners this week, a favorable pattern for storm development thanks to easterly winds aloft pumping in moisture. Rain so far this summer has been hit or miss, but I think this week is shaping up to be the most active we’ve seen this Monsoon.

LookingAhead_Monday

Here’s what our KVOA in-house model has painted for Monday afternoon, with scattered storms all over Southern Arizona. Notice the areas of yellow around Sonoita, Willcox & east of Douglas…this is an indication of heavy rainfall in excess of 1″. I think any storm that forms in Southern Arizona will be capable of heavy rain, as well as gusty winds.

LookingAhead_Tuesday

The model for Tuesday is showing a downturn in storms, which isn’t surprising considering how active it has Monday. If storms aren’t as robust Monday, Tuesday could end up being more active than the model is leading on.

I’ll be covering all the Monsoon action this week, so keep logging on to JeffBeamish.com to stay ahead of the storms. For radar looks 24/7, be sure to visit my Live Tucson Radar page.
