Small Stream Flood Advisory…Will Tucson Get Rain Today?
Friday, July 23rd, 2010A Small Stream Flood Advisory has been issued for Northeastern Pima & Southeastern Pinal Counties until 2:15 pm. The storms you see on radar over Mt. Lemmon & Oracle are capable of dropping over an inch of rain in the next few hours, causing washes & creeks to flow. Mt. Lemmon picked up 0.87″ rain in the last hour & that rainfall will drain into Sabino Creek. If you’re planning on taking a hike around Sabino Canyon/Seven Falls, be aware that Sabino Creek may run bankfull.
Outside of that small cluster, storms are trying to form in the Tucson Mountains & in Redington Pass. This activity is slowly trying to push east at 5 mph, so the west side of Tucson may see a little rain over the next hour. Based on radar trends, today’s activity seems to hug the mountains and fizzle out once reaching valley floors. I’m calling for isolated storms this afternoon/early evening for Southern Arizona, with the best chances for storms in the higher terrain.
As always, I’ll be all over the Monsoon on the TV side today through the weekend. Your forecast will also be in the Arizona Daily Star…see you all for News 4 at 4 today!
