Radar stop #1 takes us north of Tucson, where a cluster of storms continues to hug the higher terrain of the Catalinas. Rainfall has been reported on Dove Mountain and near Catalina, but nothing measurable according to the Pima County Flood Control rain gauges.

1 PM: Radar’s starting to pick up a small cluster of storms from Pusch Ridge to west of highway 79. These storms may produce gusty winds, frequent lightning strikes and even some pea-sized hail. Movement has been fairly stationary. Rainfall amounts will remain very light.

The wave of showers & storms over Mexico has reached the southeastern part of Cochise County. Radar at 5 pm shows light to moderate rain falling near Douglas/Pirtleville, with the heaviest activity to the south & east of Portal. This is all moving northwest at 10 mph. As I promised yesterday, some moisture has crept in from the southeast. Good amount of clouds out there this afternoon…here’s what the Catalina Mountains looked like at 3 pm.

There seems to be a fine line separating where the Monsoon moisture is and where it isn’t. Evidence of that is above, with cumulus clouds building in the Chiricahua Mountains & eastward. Nothing but severe clear over the remainder of Southern Arizona, thanks to a dry southwesterly flow.

We’re in the height of wildfire season in Arizona, with three wildfires charring portions of Flagstaff. The largest fire of the three is the Schultz Fire, which ignited Sunday afternoon. As of 9 PM Sunday, the Schultz Fire was 3,000 acres.
